1 Upload your brief
Drop a .docx here, or click to choose
Word templates (.dotx) work too, and come back as a .docx. Nothing is uploaded anywhere β the file is read and rewritten inside this page.
2 Review what BriefMark found
Edit any long form, change a category, or uncheck an authority to leave it unmarked. Rows flagged check need a look. The short form is only used to group later cites of the same authority; it never appears in the table.

3 Options and download
What to do in Word after downloading
- Open the downloaded file. If Word asks "This document contains fields that may refer to other files. Update?", click Yes.
- If the table still shows placeholders, select all (Ctrl+A / Cmd+A), then right-click inside the selection and choose "Update Field". By keyboard that is F9 on Windows and fn+F9 on a Mac β plain F9 on a Mac is usually taken by the system.
- If your brief also has a Table of Contents, Word will ask "Update page numbers only" or "Update entire table". That question is about the contents table, not the authorities table, which updates on its own. Update page numbers only is the right answer, since adding the Table of Authorities shifts the pages your headings sit on. Choose "Update entire table" only if you have also changed heading text.
- The hidden TA fields sit right after each citation. To see them, toggle hidden text (Home β ΒΆ). Leave hidden text off when you print or export to PDF, or page numbers will shift.
- Finalize the brief, then update the table once more so page numbers are current.
